Oil Saponification Values SAP, Properties, and Availability Table -While I was writing the Formulating Your Own Soap Recipes eBook, I compiled a lot of information regarding many oils from a variety of sources. This allowed me to create a saponification table that lists SAP values for far more oils than any source I have found. Additionally, most of the oils have a very basic listing of oil properties. Finally, I have listed whether the oil comes in organic, sustainable, fairly traded, or wild crafted varieties. That’s another bit of information that you may have difficulty finding.
You may notice that SAP values range from source to source on the Internet and in books. This is because there is actually a range for each oil’s value. I gathered the SAP values, mainly from MSDS sheets and other reliable sources, and took the median of each range. You will find that if you plug these values into your recipe formulations, the minor difference between sources changes the total lye needed minimally. Most of the time, the amount will be the same once rounded.
